Biography
Franklin Sandoval, a Salvadoran-American cellist and Suzuki-registered educator, is the Adjunct
Cello Professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He also teaches at the University of
Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department and the Cincinnati Music
Village.
As an active performer, Sandoval has appeared at festivals and institutions such as the New
World Symphony, the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, the Amelia Island Chamber
Music Festival, the Jacksonville Cello Workshop, and the Meadowmount School of Music. He previously served as a Teaching Fellow at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp during the summers.
Dedicated to the promotion of Latin American music, Sandoval’s research focuses on concert,
folkloric, and popular traditions from the region, with particular emphasis on El Salvador. Also fluent in Spanish, and in addition to premiering and recording works by Latin American composers, he regularly returns
to El Salvador to perform, teach, and collaborate with students and institutions, furthering
cultural exchange and accessibility to music and education. His broader scholarship includes
string pedagogy, immigration, history, and inclusion.
Sandoval is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Musical Arts at the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music as a NEXT Graduate Fellow in the studio of Alan Rafferty, expecting to graduate in August 2026. He
previously earned a Master of Music in Performance from Miami University, studying with Dr.
Sarah Kim, with a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Florida under
Dr. Nick Curry.
